From October 17-19, the Arctic Circle Assembly took place in Reykjavik. The conference is an annual event where countries, institutions, researchers and politicians meet to discuss cooperation and solutions in the Arctic.
Our region was represented by Director of Innovation South Greenland, Miki Jensen, who contributed to three panel discussions on food security, tourism and foreign investment in the Arctic.
Director Miki Jensen says: “Our region has the resources to help the world with a green transition. We also have rich marine and wildlife, the cleanest water in the world and an exclusive tourist destination. We want increased prosperity and improved living conditions. That's why we are interested in cooperation and foreign investment - if there is respect for our land, nature, culture and health, and that these investments can contribute positively to our community.”
Following an invitation from Qair Internatinal, Malik Vahl Rasmussen also gave a presentation on Greenland's energy potentials and his experiences with contracting and construction projects in the country. He highlighted the great potential and local opportunities for installation and service.
“At the Arctic Circle Assembly, I saw once again the great interest in Greenland, especially our huge potential in energy and hydropower and how it can play a crucial role in the future - not only for Greenland, but as an important export commodity to the rest of the world in the form of e-fuels and green energy solutions.
My main message is that local people and businesses really need to understand the difference these green energy projects can make to the future of Greenland. For example, the one project near Maniitsoq proposed by Qair International could not only double Greenland's exports, but also create 250 long-term, well-paid jobs. This is a huge opportunity for our country and an important part of the green transition where Greenland can play a key role, says Malik V. Rasmussen to Innovation South Greenland after the conference.
From Campus Kujalleq, Head of Education in Tourism Aaju Simonsen participated and contributed to various discussions.
We are happy that our region has been represented to such a large extent.
