In week 44, the oldest students in both Qaqortoq and Nanortalik worked on exciting theme weeks.
At Tasersuup Atuarfia in Qaqortoq, the week focused on entrepreneurship. Innovation South Greenland (ISG) gave presentations, provided feedback on the students’ ideas, and served as judges in the final competition.
First prize went to Milan and Romeo (10th grade) for their idea of a portable sound studio and/or rehearsal room to be built in old shipping containers. ISG chose this project as the winner because the concept could be used throughout the region, the country, and internationally, to the delight of many young people.
The second prize went to a canteen project run by the school’s oldest students, who wanted to serve breakfast to the children at 7:30 a.m. so that fewer children would be late for school. ISG saw great value in involving the oldest students and creating engagement among young people while strengthening the foundation for education in Qaqortoq.
The third prize went to a project involving pavilions in nature for the enjoyment of both locals and tourists. The group distinguished itself by being particularly thorough in its business plan and had considered financing and establishment.
In Nanortalik, the students worked on the theme “My future?”
During the week, the students researched various educational opportunities to find their dream jobs.
Several local companies came and talked about their work, and the weekend was with the students’ giving presentations to their parents.
They presented everything from skilled trades and retail to boarding schools in Greenland and Denmark – and even dreams of AFS stays in New Zealand and Italy.
Innovation South Greenland participated in the presentations and met enthusiastic students with many exciting ideas for the future.
