The mayor invited the business community to a dialogue meeting on Monday afternoon about Qaqortoq’s town center, where most of the buildings worthy of preservation are located. The focus was on how the listed buildings, owned by the Municipality of Kujalleq, can be used more actively – for the benefit of both citizens and visitors.
The participants started with a tour of the buildings to get inspiration on how the area can be made more vibrant and accessible.
Museum curator Inge Bisgaard from the National Museum, recipient of the European Heritage Award, presented the rules and opportunities for developing listed buildings with inspiring examples of how cultural heritage can create life and activity in a town center.
Representatives from Naalakkersuisut also presented guidelines for the renovation of buildings worthy of preservation.
Innovation South Greenland presented a new analysis showing the need for more accommodation and dining options in Qaqortoq. This gave the business community an overview of what the town will be lacking when the new airport and port come into use.
