Contractors are currently busy paving and marking the road to Qaqortoq Airport. Although the road is largely complete, the contractors need peace and quiet to work on the road until it is finished. Therefore, the road will be completely closed until Sunday, October 5. After that, the road will reopen with access from the town and only down to the beach area.
However, there are a few exceptions – people who have booked the sauna will be able to access it while all traffic is closed.
“We understand that people are curious and interested and want to follow along – and we are happy about that – but the construction site is still an active work area with large machines and ongoing construction work. This therefore poses a safety risk – both for visitors and for the employees working on site,” says Mikkel Bjarnø Lund, Communications Manager at Greenland Airport.

Greenland Airports and the contractors urge everyone to refrain from using the road from the beach to the construction site or staying in the area until the airport opens in the second quarter of 2026.
