Have you heard about the new fees for cruise ships sailing in Greenland’s maritime territory? The purpose is to generate more economic value for the region / municipality where the vessels are present. The fees will go to the municipality and will be used to support and promote sustainable tourism initiatives, including maintenance, infrastructural and environmental protection projects.
“We are looking forward to the proceeds which will be able to support several projects already from the first year,” says Sarah Woodall.
Kommune Kujalleq (the municipality of South Greenland) and Innovation South Greenland (the regional DMO / destination marketing and management organiation) have made the list of places in South Greenland where the fee applies. The list includes all towns and settlements as well as a handful of nature landing spots. The list is evaluated annually.
